Thursday night we hit the Ritch in San Francisco for the Wax show.

Wax is a rapper, singer and songwriter that got his start on YouTube. He just got signed to Def Jam and he's doing a series of shows in which SF was the first stop.

I didn't take that many pictures, I spent a lot more time shooting video. I'll probably have the video done and posted by the end of this week. Stuff came up.

Wax hopped on stage, plugged his guitar in, and got to work.

He puts on a great show.

If you haven't heard his music hear it here now.

I just got back from the Wax show and it's late so I'm gonna rest. Until I can get the entire post together here's a few of my favorite shots of the opening acts: KREAYSHAWN and Overdoz

Curren$y's Covert Coup get's La Pink One's seal of approval.

The "In The Car" thing is something I write on CD's if I like to listen to them...in the car.

It's 4/20 and in honor of such a joyous and peaceful occasion the guys and I hit Sparc in the city.

I personally do not smoke and any friends of mine who smoke Marijuana do so responsibly and legally. I'm sure we are all well aware of Marijuana's benefits to the state as a cash crop and to individuals as medicine. If you're not aware of the benefits it has to offer, google it or something. Just be safe folks, don't buy laced weed from some idiot you met through a friend and don't force yourself to smoke because you listen to Gaylor Tang. If you ask me I say if you want to smoke that bad then exercise your rights, get a cannabis card and buy safe, medical, potent weed.

Now with that being said, have a nice Wednesday.

Happy Monday.

I've always thought Pharrell Williams has some of the meanest swagger in the hip hop game.

First he made grills cool.

Then he made Hawaiian shirts cool.

Then he made Bape hoodies cool.

It was Richard's birthday today and AJ's sis made him a cake that was made up of one enormous cupcake next to three little ones. Makes no sense, I know, but hey what do I know about cake?

They had a piñata and the little kids broke it but before any of them could get any candy Adrian ran up in that bitch and took it all. Then he kept the piñata's head as a trophy.

Then AJ peed himself.

Birthday boy in the flesh.

Had Red Stripe for the first time. Adding it to the list of beers I like.

I ate like 5 different times. I think people noticed I kept eating but everyone was too nice to say anything.

I hit the infamous "Trap" tonight with the guys. They were telling me the kinds of stuff that goes on out here. From drivebys and hookers who jump fences, to ladies in bedsheets who stand in the intersection in the middle of the night, it all goes down in the Trap.

I'm not at liberty to say where it is, all I can say is that it's on the corner of Dartmouth and Baylor.

The D-Lo we know was D-Lo before that guy with dreads came out. Kinda like he was saying "winnin" before Charlie Sheen was saying it. Always knows what's next.

I might do a series of portraits of folks I know just to prove my friends are cooler than yours.

Nothing new to report.

Here's a scene from the movie Judgement Night where Jeremy Piven gets his. (Charlie Sheen's brother Emilio makes a cameo.)

My friend, the San Lorenzo legend, MikeYo.

Everyone thinks the Yo part is some trendy thing he added to make his name sound cool, but "Yo" is just short for "Yoshioka," his last name. There's a million Mikes out there but only one MikeYo.

I (unofficially) teamed up with the classic "The Room" to make some ads for the blog. The rest are up on the YouTube page.

Enjoy.

It's Pirmadienį Muzika. That's music monday in Lithuanian.

Youtube might remove the song so enjoy it while it lasts. Even if the song doesn't play the picture's pretty accurate.

A small taste of what's to come. Rodney gets down.

It doesn't get any better than Lee's on a beautiful day.

I love Vietnamese sandwiches and today Wendy brought like 4 of these to class. Some guy walked by us and said "What's that smell? I think it's coming from those sandwiches." I turned and said "You're about three seconds from getting the lips slapped off your face." He went and sat down and we kept eating.

It's not about what you're shooting with it's what you shoot. (Shot with an iphone 4)

I got this really cool Photography catalog from 1999.

It's like looking at a time capsule of all the things that were relevant enough to get photographed 12 years ago. It's full of pictures that were used for major ads and editorials. I'm pretty sure I'm committing some kind of infringement by putting this up on here, but you gotta bend the rules sometimes. Be innovative. Plus all these pictures are from 12 years ago, all these people are probably dead by now.

Dogs were really hot back in '99.

Famine was as serious and messed up back then as it is now. My heart goes out to anyone who's suffering from hunger anywhere in the world. Wish I could feed you all for the rest of your lives.

Ron Howard (Opie) was 12 years younger, and still not as weird looking as his brother.

Dogs were really really hot back in '99.

I hit the city and had Boccalone's "tasty salted pig parts" for lunch today.

This post isn't for vegetarians or people who don't eat swine. If you're either of those please click here now, or just ignore this post. I'll be back to blogging about stuff you like tomorrow. If you do enjoy the amazing taste of pork look at my pictures and then go to Boccalone Salumeria in San Francisco and enjoy the best artisan meats the Bay Area has to offer.

Tell 'em I sent you. No just kidding don't tell them that, if you do they'll probably just look at you like you're weird.

Just another Manic Monday.. wish it was a sunday..

This is that video Keane was talking about in the interview. Knocka Knock's "Throw On A Beat"

Saturday, April 2, 2011

I had the pleasure of having lunch with one of the dopest creators of our time, Keane Dasalla, otherwise known as Dashes Clay. I refer to him as a creator because he's a rapper (Beautiful Music, Baby), a photographer, and as of late a music visual director. He gave me the opportunity to interview him today. He's a real humble, down to earth guy.

Where are you from?
I'm from Union City. That's where we grew up.

When did you start rapping?
I started way back in '99. I remember me and my boys would meet up at our friend MikeOne's house on Fridays and we'd have cyphers in his garage. Back then it was all about just freestyling and seeing what the dopest rhymes we could come up with right then and there were. From that point on I fell in love with the aspect of being able to get in that mode and play with words to make something great.

How did you transition from Music to Photography?
It was easy to transition because they both give me that freedom to create. The only difference for me is that in Music there's more time involved 'til you get that finished product, but with Photography I mean you can take a thousand pictures a day if you really wanted to.

Did you go to school for any of this?
No, but I'm a very studious person. If something really interests me I'll spend countless hours figuring it all out. With music I would look at the lines on a piece of paper as bars and I'd split 'em up and try to figure out how I could say something different and make it sound better or how the first part of this line would sound with the first part of the line after that. With my Photography I was always looking at the style and technique of Photographers I liked, like what f/stop they were shooting at and the lighting and composition and all that. I learned to mimic different styles until I'd developed a style of my own. A lot of hard work and thought goes into anything I do.

How did you start working with Erk Tha Jerk?
I pretty much met him through working with IMPRM. I went out to Atlanta to document his time at the AC3 Music Festival. We stayed in contact for a bit afterwards and eventually transitioned into shooting some music videos for him. First being "Ha Ha" then Reach The Top.

Who are you listening to right now?
Big K.R.I.T., Curren$y and Erk is in constant rotation on my desktop and in my car.

Any upcoming projects you can talk about?
Yeah I got Knocka Knock's "Throw On A Beat" going up tomorrow actually, and Erk's video for "Favorite Song" is wrapped up and waiting to be released.

It's the first of April and everyone's playing April Fool's jokes on each other but I'm not gonna do that to all of you because that's retarded, and I couldn't think any good jokes anyway.

Bump this all day and relax. Have a good Friday.
